Why We ride: This is a particularly important year for Team Clayco:
Our goal is to reach beyond the $100,000 donation level. Last year we made it to just shy of $87,000.
Our Team has been steadfast every year and we have many stories and many specific people that provide great reasons for us to ride.
If you find this page and decide to donate to Team Clayco please consider honoring Thomas Rolfes when you donate to our Team. Tom was the son of Ron and Julie Rolfes who was fatally shot on May 7th, 2016 in New Orleans. Tom was in New Orleans with his fiancée to plan their wedding. Tom and Ron both were cyclists and a part of our Pedal the Cause Team. He was a fine young man, a super star as a Senior Project Engineer at Clayco and was soon to be married. He will be missed and your prayers for the Rolfes' are much appreciated.
Providing extra determination to make this the biggest and best Team Clayco year ever is Ron's story (a PTC two time 100 miler). The day before he learned of his son's tragic death, he completed one of his chemo treatments, looking forward to a few days of sickness. He instead faced something worse than cancer. Our team and everyone who knew Ron should need no more motivation to outreach your goals this year. Here is a quote from Ron I received on May 10th 2016:
I want to use this (tragic event and my cancer) to earn absolutely the most money we can for PTC. Thomas and I discussed earning yellow jerseys this year. He was the calming voice and always sought a peaceful solution at our darkest times. We want to keep that spirit alive however we can. This a great cause that we both shared. Let's earn money and cure cancer!...Ron Rolfes
This year Team Clayco will continue to ride for a beautiful 3 year old girl named Emme. We ride for Maddie, Ethan, Claire and all of their families because someday one of us might be fighting cancer and it is good to know that people care and people will be supporting us in our time of need.
It's not hard to find a reason to Ride this year, but truly it's never hard to find a reason; all one needs to do is look around and you find a family suffering through a cancer experience.
