WHY WE RIDE

Team Bud was formed in memory of my wonderful Dad, Walter Bud Asbury, who died of bladder cancer at the end of 2011. We miss him terribly and wanted to do something that could potentially help others with this ugly disease. My dad was a giver, a man who served others his entire life, and we thought this was a good way to pay tribute to him. This is our twelfth year with Pedal the Cause and it's been a great ride!!

In April of 2016, we lost our mom and renamed our team to Team Bud and Barb. Bud and Barb were truly a team who loved life, their family and their many friends. To honor them in this way is the least we can do to show how much they mean to us and what an impact they had and continue to have in our lives.

Each year we've increased the number of riders and volunteers on our team. We peaked at 26 riders and 14 volunteers and raised more than $200,000 in the 12 years since our inception and plan to keep growing. We continue to sponsor our own refueling station manned by friends and family and run by the amazing Debby Wells.

We joined the fight against cancer by participating in Pedal the Cause bike challenge. Pedal the Cause has the mission to provide funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital through their annual cycling challenge in hopes that the research funded by their event will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.
