WHY WE RIDE

Bartlett's Bikers are back for 2019 Pedal the Cause - our 9th year!! Our team members are patients, survivors, doctors, nurses, research assistants, friends, and family.

Each member of our team has very personal reasons for riding but collectively, the Bartlett's Biker's team is also riding in honor of Natalee (pictured above), our Ride for a Child participant for 2019. Natalee is 11 years old and loves to swim, jump on trampolines, go to concerts, hang out with friends and fish at Bennett Springs. She is a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kenny Chesney and Thomas Rhett. In 2015, Natalee was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis, a rare condition that results in "benign" tumors growing in the brain and other organs. Natalee had a bike accident in August 2015 which resulted in loss of feeling and movement in her right hand a couple of days later. After several weeks of therapy with no improvement and the appearance of new problems with her R leg and gait, she was referred to a neurologist at SLCH. An MRI on 11/9/15 revealed a brain tumor. She had an MRI guided laser ablation done on 1/5/16, where they were able to ablate 90% of the tumor. The tumor was stable until March of 2017 when it began to grow. Natalee underwent chemo from June 2017-January 2018. Tumor was stable until March of 2019 when it started to look suspicious, so she started oral chemo in March. She has PT/OT 5 times a week and cannot do many of the activities her friends do because of weakness in her arm and leg. Natalee continues to do well in school and continues to improve at therapy, where she is learning to do things with one hand and maintain her independence. Natalee and her family are very grateful for the superb care she has received at Siteman Kids and SLCH from Dr. Limbrick, Dr. Gauvain and the nurses. Natalee and her family are excited to be a part of this program that gives back!

I am also delighted to share that our former Ride for a Child honorees are thriving. Lenore has been recruited as a PTC Ambassador, will be captain of her own team, and will be helping to recruit new teams lead by KIDS! Let us know if your child's school would like to start a team. Lenore can help. Brianna graduated from high school in May 2019 (# 7 in a class of 400) and will be attending Missouri S&T in the fall and is interested in biomedical engineering. Their stories continue to inspire all of us!

Please join our team this year to help stamp out cancer. We ride for cures, treatments, and hope.100% of the funds raised go towards research at St. Louis Children's Hospital and at Siteman Cancer Center.
