I'm riding: Century

Team: Jay's Garage

ID: 974

Lifetime total: $50,670.29

I am riding In Memory of Lou, Joan, Victoria Drier, Julie Schroeder and Dave Hopper.

I will always ride for my Mom who passed away after a 5 year battle with uterine cancer in June of 2010, and for my Dad who lost his battle with lung cancer in January, 2013. Both of them had a lot more life to live as a parent, grandparent, and friend.

This year, I'm riding for Dan Whelan who lost his battle to a rare form of testicular cancer, Leydig Cell Tumor. Let's just say, Dan didn't go without a fight. Dan continued to train for PTC throughout the summer which included riding his bike after every cancer treatment and sometimes during his treatments. I had the privilege of riding with Dan in his hospital room while he received an immuno infusion in mid-July, and Dan was focused. Focused on beating cancer, focused on Pedal the Cause. Dan joined our Pedal family in 2012, and every year since, Dan committed to training hard and raising $$$ for cancer research. He did both amazingly well with all the courage, fortitude, stamina, and determination he had. He never quit.
Dan is Pedal the Cause and Pedal the Cause is Dan. I will miss seeing Dan in his Hawaiian shirts at our Yellow Jersey event. I will miss seeing Dan in his purple Pancreas Cancer Road Warrior cycling jersey at our training rides. I will miss seeing Dan cross the finish line at PTC after leaving everything he had on the course. Dan, you are why we ride. RIP.

This year, I also have the privilege of joining 7 employees from World Wide Technology in the Race Across America. We will race 3,000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD crossing 12 states and climbing over 170,000 feet.We hope to finish in 6-7 days and raise $50,000 for Pedal the Cause as a team. check out our team here: Race Across America -- Team WWT

Since 2010, Pedal the Cause has donated $20 million to fund innovative, groundbreaking research at the Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital. In all, PTC has helped find 101 unique cancer research projects; many of which have moved into clinical trials and commercialization as new treatments, cures and diagnostics for cancer patients worldwide.

And, thanks to our sponsors who offset all expenses, 100% of your donations will go directly to fund cancer research. Thank you for your donations.

See you on the roads,
