Cancer sucks. It changes everything. Just hearing that cancer is a possibility when something has gone wrong with your body sends a cold, sick wash of adrenaline through your system crystallizing the moment in time forever. Some of us are lucky and get told that everything is fine, that the worse case scenario will not come to pass; others have to face down surgeries and treatment after treatment and fight for every minute of everyday.

I am lucky enough to say I have my health, which I absolutely 100% take for granted every single day. I decided to join Doug (cousin, cancer survivor, team captain, and all around good dude) and his team because ... because helping cure cancer is one of those things we should all do - like looking both ways before crossing the street and tipping wait staff. It may seem a little thing to pedal a bike to help end cancer, but I am a firm believer in little actions leading to big changes. I can't be the one sitting in a lab pushing the edge of science, but I can help ensure the funding is there.

I'm riding for: my cousin who never fails to amaze me with his unwavering strength and kindness; my best friend's mother who is battled cancer like she does everything else in life: beautifully and directly; my friend since second grade who has been, blessedly, cancer free for two and a half years; for my aunt who met breaths cancer head on this spring; for friends and family who lost their battles with cancer; for a little dude named Landon who's champ and wants to grow up to be a firefighter; but most of all I am riding so that one day cancer can be a thing of the past.

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help in this journey by donating to my ride - you can give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
