I am riding In Memory of Jim Daugherty.

WHY I RIDE

In October 2007, my father James Levi Daugherty was diagnosed with colon cancer. He was told he had probably two years. He fought hard and thanks to the combination of surgery, medical treatment, diet, and natural approaches, he went into remission after about a year. Unfortunately, the cancer later returned in his liver, but with a surgery to remove a portion of his liver, more chemo/radiation, and continued vigilance with diet, he would beat the cancer again. Sadly, in 2013, the cancer would again return to his liver and lungs. In July 2014 my father lost his battle with cancer. In 2007 he was told to enjoy his time with his family, because 2 years was the best he could expect. He was with us for almost 7 years after the initial diagnosis. I know that medical advancements played a major role in that extended time. And this is why I ride. So that we can continue to fund medical research and give families more time with their loved ones, and hopefully someday beat cancer all together.

In 2018, I will also be riding in memory of Kim Anderson. After my father passed away, my mom began attending (and eventually facilitating) a grief support group. Through that, she met Tim. Tim's wife (Kim) lost her battle with cancer about 2 years after my Dad lost his. Tim and my mom have been a great source of support for one-another, and he is becoming an increasingly important part of our family. Though I never met Kim, it is my honor to carry her memory with me on this bike ride.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
