WHY I RIDE

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well, and I thank you for taking the time out of your busy day(s) to read this message/request.  Currently I'm training for and focusing my attention on the morning of September 27th.  On Sunday the 27th I will be participating in a 50 mile cycling ride to benefit children's (St. Louis Children's Hospital) and adult (Siteman Cancer Center) cancer research in the St. Louis area.

One of the best parts of this endeavor is that it is a 100% donation model.  That means, every single penny donated goes to cancer research (http://stlouis.pedalthecause.org).  I ride for this cause for many reasons.  First, well, cancer SUCKS.  That is not an acronym. The second part is this; evidence suggests that approximately an estimated 1.65 million Americans will be newly diagnosed with cancer this year (ACS - http://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/content/@editorial/documents/document/acspc-044552.pdf).  The figure referenced does not include new cancer diagnoses outside of the United States, which exacerbates the need for further, more focused cancer research.  A number this significant touches our loved ones, which affects all of us, whether it be directly or indirectly.  I often think about what this world would be like if cancer didn't exist, but then I realize how many heroes and role models wouldn?t exist today.  Fight it, and fight it some more.

Recently and luckily I've discovered a team that will allow me to roll with them (because I know the 'one and only', Ashley!) to help with '(pedal) The Cause'. This team, Powered By Hope, is one made of dreams and stars. Our team captain Terri Griege is a significant force and inspiration in fighting cancer.  Terri has demolished roadblocks and taken life by the horns.  She has completed multiple Ironman races and her book will educate and inspire you.

One group, or groups, that I cannot forget to mention are the nurses and doctors that have a positive impact on all of us on a daily basis.  I can only imagine what type of positive impact they have on the patients and their families. Their teamwork and effortless compassion needs to, and should be, recognized.

Thank you for hanging in there with me.  I ask that fellow riders, friends, and family members make a concerted effort to donate to a cause of their choice that benefits others, and to assist with the progress of that cause(s).  Lastly I ask that if you have additional donation funds available, to please support me in my ride for progressive cancer research.  Link to donate can be found here - https://stlouis.pedalthecause.org/donate_cart.jsp?MemberID=55337

My goal is to raise as much as I can for this cause that is dear to my heart.  Any donation amount to my ride/the cause is very much appreciated and recognized.  Please know that I will be sending out additional emails, and that they are in no way additional/further requests for donations.  I am simply ensuring that I canvas our full group.

I ride for those that have been diagnosed.  I ride for those who fight.  I ride for those who continue to fight such a courageous battle.  You are inspiring, loved, and missed.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Jonathan
