Why I ride: I am back for my eighth year at Pedal the Cause and proud to be riding again with so many friends and members of the community who have joined together to end cancer.

Pedal the Cause, and the fight against cancer is in large part about numbers. For me, it starts with 14.
14 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. 3 years later, I was lucky enough to be in remission after a 2-time battle with lymphoma. Were it not for the world-class Siteman Cancer Center and the excellent care of Dr. Nancy Bartlett and her team, I would not be here.

In 2010, my wife Amy and I founded Pedal the Cause with a mission to raise long-term, significant funding for Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital, and with the hope that the research funded by this organization will help lead to cancer cures.

More numbers: in 8 years, Pedal has raised almost $20 million dollars for cancer research, funded 84 project grants, and received donations from 100,000+ individuals. Those numbers are heartening, but in the face of the current statistics, there is much more work to be done.

1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The odds are staggering, and push us to go further and move faster toward a cure. There are phenomenal advances in research and treatments coming every day and the next decade will be critical to the development of sophisticated, individualized cancer care. In an era of government cutbacks while we are making real progress, this is no time to go on defense. Siteman Cancer Center is positioned to be at the forefront of bringing genomic medicine, immunotherapy and new clinical trials to patients here in St. Louis.
With the necessary resources, we have every reason to believe that cures are on the horizon.

There are so many reasons to join the fight against cancer. At Pedal, everyone rides for their own reason. I've got four main reasons to ride right here in this picture. My hope is that we will see cures in our lifetime and that our children and grandchildren will not have to face this disease.

We have a large goal this year: to raise more than $4 million dollars at Pedal18. Personally, I have committed to raise $25,000.00 for cancer research and plan to ride 55 miles on September 29th. Please help me in this journey to find a cure by donating to my ride. 100% of your donation will go directly to this cause.

Thank you for your friendship and consideration. I appreciate your support!
