WHY I RIDE

When I was in college, I found out that 1 in 3 females would have cancer. (I learned from the PTC web site that 1 in just 2 males will end up with cancer.) I thought of all my friends and wondered who among us it would be. That horrible disease really hit home when I lost my dad to sinus cancer when I was only 18. He was one of a mere 10 documented cases at the time. He donated his body for research at Washington University. Just in the last 10 years has the primary cause for sinus cancer been determined--second hand smoke. My mom was the smoker. She died 13 years later from lung cancer. The disease also took an in-law so that my daughter never had any grandparents. I lost a friend and a cousin to cancer and have two friends battling it.

I ride to remember those I have loved and lost.
I ride to support those who are fighting right now.
I ride to protect those I love from this fatal disease.

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO DIRECTLY TO CANCER RESEARCH at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital. You can see some of the research that has been funded by PTC here: http://stlouis.pedalthecause.org/beneficiaries_research.jsp#2010-11
