WHY I RIDE

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

Everyone knows someone who has cancer or has been affected themselves. I am riding for a world without cancer, and the list keeps growing of those close to me that have been affected. Most of you know about my son Adam who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 2, and was treated here at St. Louis Children's hospital for three years. He will riding with me again this year! It has been so great to get to ride with him for the past few. He is 17 now!! He is sooo excited and passionate about the ride. He is doing extremely well. He 6'3" tall, big, and strong. 30-40 years ago these children didn't survive. My dear father-in-law passed away 7 years ago from lung cancer and dear mother-in-law lost her life after a diagnosis of bile duct cancer 3 years ago.I really miss them. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about them. One of my closest friend's father, John Christian, also lost his battle with cancer 3 years ago after many years of fighting. My close friend Amy Whitelaw lost her dad to lung cancer 5 years ago. The Laupp family also had big losses with my aunt and uncles Gary, Elissa, and Tim losing their lives. My dear sister-in-laws have both been affected by cancer. Nancy Slade was diagnosed with Melanoma a few years ago, had surgery and at regular check ups is cancer free! Kim Slade had a tough battle with breast cancer 7 years ago and is cancer free! Mike's cousins Christine, Marae, and Cathy have all battled breast cancer and are winning or have won the fight. My dear friend Sara Downard lost her battle with stage 4 colon cancer in 2020. They are all my heros. I thank God every day for my health and the health of my family and friends. You never know if you may be the next one. I am riding for all those who are fighting cancer, those who won the fight, and those in our memories.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Thank you for your support!
