WHY I RIDE

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

This year is my +20!

On May 20th, 1999, I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). It is surreal to think back to that day sitting in the office of my soon to be oncologist having zero clue why in the world I was there. My initial thought after being told my diagnosis was, Am I going to see my 27th birthday? Fast forward 20 years... I am almost 46, cancer free, healthy and am the mom to three healthy boys. You see prior to my diagnosis there was a significant amount of research done on this particular disease. APL was once considered an extremely malignant leukemia with a terrible prognosis, but was transformed into one of the most frequently curable one. This progress has been the result of advances in both biological and clinical research.

In these past 20 years I have watched friends go through their own battles with cancer. I have seen friends lose their battles, I have seen some of my dear friends lose their family to cancer and in the summer of 2017 I watched my sister in her own battle with breast cancer. I know what a difference research can make in the life of a patient and my prayer is that more patients will get to celebrate their +20, +30, +40...

I can't think of a better way to celebrate this milestone than giving back to the research community.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my spin, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
