WHY I RIDE

This year is a special year for me to ride. Right now I am battling a case of multiple myeloma, cancer of the plasma, with Dr. Vij and his team at the Siteman Center. I am registered and committed to raising the funds to be a Yellow Jersey participant.

Because this battle with cancer has become personal, it brings me closer to the people I have ridden for in the past. I have always ridden to honor my family members and students who have survived cancer: my grandmother, Martha Hoffmann; my husband, Bill Schiller; former student Camden Wright. Also to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer: my mom, Verna Kellenberger; my aunt, Jean Kellenberger; former student, Alaina Bickhaus, and the lovely Anne Schiller. But this year I ride for myself as a way to say to cancer: You can't keep me down! I know, the future is no place to place your better days (per dmb) and plan to be present now to live that truth.

I am joining the fight against cancer by participating in the tenth-annual Pedal the Cause bike challenge. It will be my seventh event. Pedal the Cause has the mission to provide funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital through their annual cycling challenge in the hope that the research funded by their event will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.

Please help me in this journey to find a cure by donating to my ride. I have committed to raise $2500 for cancer research and 100% of your donation will go directly to this cause.

Please join me as we beat cancer by donating whatever you can. Remember, 100% of what you donate goes to cancer research!
