WHY I RIDE

On February 13, 2013 my life was forever changed. My father, Dhananjai Shah (affectionately called Professor) was diagnosed with Stage 1 Pancreatic Cancer. My father went through chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and more chemotherapy. There is currently no screening for early diagnosis and most patients find out much too late to survive, let alone have a cure. I am proud to say he is now 4 years cancer free.

Then again in late 2014, we learned that my father-in-law, Jatin Anadkat, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Our family decided to move them from their home in California to St. Louis in order for him to receive world class care at Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University. He was enrolled in a clinical trial and recipient of a successful bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, his leukemia relapsed and he succumbed to the cancer on March 26, 2017.

I am joining the fight against cancer by participating in the annual Pedal the Cause bike challenge. Pedal the Cause has the mission to provide funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital through their annual cycling challenge in hopes that the research funded by their event will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.

Please help me in this journey to find a cure by donating to my ride. I have committed to raise $500 for cancer research and 100% of your donation will go to directly to this cause.

I plan to ride 20 miles on September 30, 2018 and I hope you will join me in this grass-roots effort to advance research and find a cure. I plan on riding in honor of my father and in memory of my father-in-law and all cancer patients: fighters, survivors, and fallen angels.
