WHY I RIDE

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer. Cancer has had a big impact in my life in two very profound ways. First, my mother was originally diagnosed with cancer when I was in high school in the 1980s. As the mother of 7 children, this was a scary time for her and our entire family. After surgery and aggressive treatments, she was cancer-free for more than a decade. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and led to a years long battle that eventually resulted in my mom's passing in early 2003, two months after my youngest son and her youngest grandchild was born. I am confident that my mom's desire to see her youngest grandchild born was a key to her strength to keep going in the final months.

The second major impact came in June 2019 when my wife Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer. As the mother of three children, Michelle's primary concern was for her family, but we also explored her treatment options. The reputation and treatment plan at Siteman Cancer Center led us to choose this facility. Along with the challenges of multiple surgeries, there was the unexpected challenge of a global pandemic that created disruptions to her treatment plan. I am happy to say that Michelle is healthy, cancer-free and we are both very pleased with the quality of care and outstanding professionals at Siteman Cancer Center.

Please support my efforts by donating to my fundraiser, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will fund lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
