WHY I RIDE

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer.

Cancer has affected my life in more than one way. In 2005 I lost my aunt, Lisa Van Sickle, at the age of 42 to colon cancer. She was an amazing aunt to myself, and mother and wife to my two cousins Leigha and Lauren and Uncle David. I ride in memory of her, my family misses her dearly.

I ride for my Uncle Eddie who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. Thankfully after a successful treatment, he has made a full recovery.

I also ride in honor of my father, Chad Kavanaugh, an avid cyclist and cancer survivor. My father was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2008 and has been in remission since 2013.

I remember the exact day my dad came home with no hair, a swollen body from the chemotherapy, and still had a smile on his face. He worked hard throughout his treatment and always made sure to put his family first.

My dad is the motivation behind me picking up cycling as a hobby. Throughout my childhood I would wake up early on July mornings and watch the Tour de France with him. Ever since those memories I have been fascinated with the sport which has lead to my own participation.

I ride for all those we have lost, are battling, and have survived this horrible disease.
