WHY I RIDE

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause and ride in the fight against cancer. I am riding for my dear friend Patrick Martin, who passed away in 2012 from leukemia. He was an amazing guy and a great father to two boys. We spent much of our twenties together, getting married around the same time, and having our kids only months apart. When he got sick, Patrick received state of the art care in Los Angeles where he lived, including at some of the top cancer centers in the country. I look now at the incredible advances in cancer research since then, particularly lifesaving new therapies such as CAR-T cell therapy in leukemia, and I am hopeful and amazed that current cancer patients have so many more and better options than even ten years ago.

But there is so much more to do in so many different cancers. I look at the past several years of projects funded here at Siteman by Pedal the Cause and I am proud to see a number of projects in my own department, Radiation Oncology, supported by the selfless donations of so many people. Incredible research by top scientists to improve radiation treatment for cancer, including projects in pancreatic, lung, and brain cancers amongst others.

I'm proud to ride to support these wonderful scientists and colleagues, and to honor Patrick's memory. Please support my efforts by donating to my fundraiser, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will fund lifesaving cancer research entirely here locally at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
