I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by making a donation, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.

My Family and I became involved with Pedal the Cause by volunteering for the refuel stations around 5 years ago. My wife Marie had lost both her parents to cancer, a good friend of ours was battling childhood cancer, who has since lost the battle. We didn?t know what to expect that first year, but along with our two children, Jessica and Benjamin, we were assigned two stations. We spent the day setting up canopies, tables, water coolers, and so much more. We met some wonderful volunteers and participants, were completely overwhelmed by the shear number of riders, and came away tired but so happy to have played even a small l part. The four of us have turned it into a red number date on our calendars, and have been involved since.

Unfortunately, after suffering what I thought was seasonal allergies and laryngitis, I was diagnosed with Squamous Cel Carcinoma in my Vocal Chords. After surgery and 28 radiation sessions, my throat was considered cancer free. Shortly after that diagnosis, I received another blow and was diagnosed with Basal Cel Carcinoma (skin cancer). Currently isolated to two spots, one on my lower back requiring Chemo medicines to burn it off, one on the back of my neck requiring surgery to remove. As of now, it has all been successful, and I am considered cancer free, although with a very watchful group of doctors. My Oncologist considers me to be cancer free, but not a cancer survivor until 5 years have passed.

I was saved by the latest technologies and techniques being utilized by the highest skilled doctors and nurses available. Unanimously, they spoke of the need for further research and development to continue the fight, and the unbelievable need for financing to make it all possible. So now I have seen and experienced the battle with cancer, and have become even more committed to the cause than before. I sincerely hope to inspire others to join this cause to help stop this horrible disease
