Joan James

Why I ride: I lost both of my grandfathers to lung cancer when I was young, and my grandmother endured colorectal cancer. My nephew, Mat, died from Ewing's Sarcoma. I am riding in memory of my friends and family and in honor of my patients who inspire me every day, because I have the privilege of caring for cancer patients at Siteman Cancer Center.

My brother-in-law, Cliff, was killed in a motorcycle accident on 4/18/17. He was a rider and supporter of Pedal, and I didn't want to register to ride because of my grieving his loss. When I found out that he had already registered to ride this year, I knew that I needed to ride in his memory!

Pedal the Cause has the mission to provide funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital through their annual cycling challenge in hopes that the research funded by their event will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.

Please help me in this journey to find a cure by donating to my ride. I have committed to raise $500 for cancer research and 100% of your donation will go to directly to this cause.

I plan to ride 20 - 37.5 miles on September 24th, and I hope you will join me in this grass-roots effort to advance research and find a cure. It won't be easy, but neither is fighting cancer!
