I am riding In Memory of Nathan Causey.
I am riding In Honor of Janet Ristuccia.
WHY I RIDE
In July 2018, Janet Ristuccia, my childhood best friend, found out she has breast cancer. This news tore me apart and broke my heart into a million pieces. She has fought the battle with more grace and courage than I could ever muster. In December 2018, I bought a bike and decided that my first ever cycling event would be Pedal the Cause with Team Edward Jones on September 29, 2019. I have not stopped riding since.
On October 15, 2021, I got the dreaded text that my friend and co-worker, Nathan Causey, had passed away after a brief but heroic battle with colon cancer. He is the first friend I've ever lost to cancer (or any illness) and it hit me harder than I expected. Nathan was always so intense and full of life. I still miss my near daily interactions with him whether it be talking about work things, his dogs that he adored, his favorite foods or his love for fishing.
This year will be my fifth PTC event, where I've committed to riding the century. That's 100 very hilly miles, with about 5000' of elevation gain! Yes, I am that crazy! It is worth the physical and mental dedication to raise money to defeat this awful disease that has creeped its way into the lives of so many amazing people like Janet and Nathan. Riding for a friend who passed away from this disease will make this year's ride so much more meaningful and emotional for me. I think of Nathan often and know he would be so excited about what we've done at work since his departure.
I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.
It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Would you consider donating to this cause and support the fight to find a cure for cancer?
Thanks in advance for your support!
