I am riding In Memory of George Horsley.

I am riding In Honor of Zachary J. Southerland.

I ride because my 32 year old husband, Zach Southerland, was diagnosed with cancer last Fall. And after failed chemotherapy and 2 biopsies, we discovered that it's an aggressive stage IV sarcoma-- the really nasty stuff. But I believe in fighting it, and in claiming that a powerful attitude and firm commitment to funding St. Louis's best scientists is exactly what will restore my husband back to health. Not to mention all of the other fighters he and I have met along the way; including my mother, my Aunt Gayle and cousin Jason. I love them of course, but it's their strength that is truly the stuff of legends. I also ride for these warriors we have lost who are fueling me on to be unyielding; my Grandfather "Pop" Horsley, my Father-in-Law Steve Southerland, and the mother of my brothers Cindy Harper.

As a caregiver, I feel that if I have a voice, it is to honor these brave heroes. I am not afraid of the challenge I face, to watch my love suffer. I fear only the temptation to give in to defeat-- which for me would be to stop searching for medical answers before Zach gets to see our daughter grow into adulthood. She is beautiful, she is my greatest gift and she is barely 2 years old. So I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride or joining my team, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
