I am riding In Memory of Rick Helean.

I am riding In Honor of Ray Ford.

WHY I RIDE

On July 2, 2012, Rick Helean died of colon cancer. He was my dad and he was only 65 years old. Cancer stole one of my brightest lights. What I didn't expect was that it would also steal my voice. When I try to talk about my dad, my words strangle in my throat and all that's left is silence. I cannot talk about him. I cannot talk about the cancer.

I ride because I want the silence to end with me.

I know it can. I've witnessed the gifts that world-class cancer research gives us. On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, Ray Ford finished his treatments for prostate cancer and officially is in remission. Ray is my bonus dad and he beat cancer. I talk about him. I talk about his cancer. I am grateful.

It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.

Here is a little bit more of my story, which I shared on my blog: Two Scoops of The Same Flavor
