I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer second year in the row. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer. The funds raised at the event go directly to the researchers at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital here at WashU.

If you know me, you would have no questions about why I am doing this: I love cycling, I am passionate about basic science and translational research, which forms the backbone of all the available therapies for cancer, and my mother is a cancer researcher in Ukraine. What you might not know is that both of my grandmothers were affected by cancer and unfortunately not both of them have won the battle.

Last year, I was impressed by the ride - the hardest 100 miles I have ever done but also the most beautiful! This year I am riding as a part of WashU Medical School Team for both of my grandmothers and challenging myself to 100 miles once more. Please support my effort and my team by donating - every dollar counts!

P.S. Please explore the projects that were funded by the ride last year to discover the vastness of research effort that goes on at Siteman
