WHY I RIDE

My life, like so many others, has been changed due to cancer. I lost my father in 2016 to a type of cancer I had not even heard existed, Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP). Being that my mom is a two-time cancer survivor, we felt pretty knowledgeable about the process but quickly learned we did not know as much as we thought. Cancer care is based on cancer cell type and place of origin and without the ability to isolate these unique characteristics the treatment options become a best guess scenario. In addition, the number of tests and time waiting for results increases by a significant proportion as every detail that can be discovered helps narrow down treatment pathways. Unfortunately time may be the one known thing you do not have. Cancer does not discriminate and it has taken the lives of family and friends of all ages. My ride is in celebration of the survivors and in honor of the lives lost to cancer as well as to support the need for ongoing research. Please consider a donation in support of cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's top cycling event. It's a way of life, a celebration, and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer. In all honesty I've questioned whether or not I'm ready for this ride this year given my focus has been on a lot of other things besides my training to beat an arbitrary time. I then remind myself that being able to ride is a privilege and what we can do far surpasses what we can't do, that's when I get even more excited to be out there for this special event.

In addition, I'm a proud member of the Powered By Hope riding team. Anyone who has had the privilege of meeting Teri Griege knows how inspirational and amazing she is and her organization, Powered By Hope also aims to honor and inspire. It takes world-class research to create a world without cancer. Please help me in this journey by donating to my ride, and give with confidence knowing that 100% of your donation will go directly to accelerating cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's Hospital.
